JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York Attorney General's Office is investigating the fatal officer-involved shooting from Johnstown on Sunday. State Police say 28-year-old Nathan Wood was shot and killed by a Johnstown police officer after police say he tried to attack the officer with a hammer. When the property owner who lives in the downstairs apartment told him to leave, Wood allegedly struck the victim multiple times with a hammer.Upon the arrival of Johnstown Police, Wood was confronted by an officer, but failed to follow police commands and reportedly proceeded to strike the officer with the hammer. The officer then discharged their firearm, striking Wood. Police say they recovered two hammers at the scene. On Monday, rising gas prices neared an average of $6 per gallon in the Los Angeles area.It only took one more day for that benchmark to be eclipsed.On Tuesday, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was nearly $6.03 in the L.A. area, according to AAA.That's about 11 cents higher than Monday's $5.92.Gas prices also rose statewide, though not by as much as they did in the Southland.The state average price is $5.76, up about 7 cents from $5.69 on Monday.Nationally, however, gas prices actually dipped about a tenth of a cent, remaining right around $3.88 per gallon.Even with the higher prices in L.A. The Walt Disney Co. is nearly doubling its investment in its parks and cruise lines. (KRON) -- A man who allegedly stole a coffee shop tip jar in Benicia Monday morning before attempting to carjack two vehicles has been arrested, the Benicia Police Department said.Benicia police officers responded to a report of a man stealing a tip jar from a coffee shop at Solano Square before breaking it and fleeing. Around 45 minutes later, police were dispatched to the area of Military West and Interstate 780 on a report of a man jumping in front of a moving vehicle in an attempted carjacking.The suspect allegedly banged on the window of the car and told the driver to get out. The driver was able to speed away safely, authorities said. Another driver also reported a man on Military West attempted to force their vehicle door open, damaging the side mirror. (NEXSTAR) – A few thousand Californians will be surprised this month when they receive a debit card loaded with hundreds of dollars in the mail. It's not a scam or a prize – it's the Middle Class Tax Refund arriving a bit behind schedule. The Middle Class Tax Refund, often referred to as an "inflation relief" payment, started going out to millions of eligible taxpayers nearly a year ago. Most people who qualify have already received a direct deposit or debit card. However, approximately 5,000 payments that never got sent out are still being processed through the end of September 2023, the Franchise Tax Board said. Some California inflation relief checks still haven’t been sent: Is yours missing?
